Objectives

Established in Hong Kong, The Democratic Party is a political party that devotes to Hong Kong’s affairs and concerns with the development of China. Hong Kong is home to our members. Laying our hope on attaining democracy, improvements and prosperity at our home, we are prepared to contribute to Hong Kong. If you are interested in further understanding our objectives and platform, please contact our headquarters on 2397 7033 or by dphk@dphk.org to obtain the information.

If you subscribe to our objectives but have not decided whether to join DP, we kindly invite you to become “Friends of The Democratic Party” to stay in contact with us and keep up with our news.

Qualifications

Any person aged 15 or above who subscribes to our objectives, principles and stand is eligible to apply for joining “Friends of DP” with free registration.

  • Participate in events organized by DP, e.g.  workshops, seminars and other political or recreational activities

Notes: “Friends of DP” are not DP members and cannot attend the General Meeting or enjoy the right to vote or be elected in DP

People who are interested in joining “Friends of DP” can submit the completed application form by fax (2397 8998) or by post (4/F, Hanley House, 776-778 Nathan Rd, Mong Kok).

Qualifications

Any Hong Kong resident aged 18 or above who subscribes to our objectives, principles and stand is eligible to apply for joining The Democratic Party.

Notice for applicants

  • Those who nominate and second the application must be current DP members. However, applicants can still submit the application form without any member’s nomination.

  • The applicant, given his/her application approved by the Central Committee and his/her membership fee paid, will become an Associate Member of the party. Associate Members are ineligible to vote in general meetings and ineligible for candidacy for any office of the party. But after six months, an Associate Member could become an Ordinary Member upon the approval of the Central Committee.

  • The annual membership fee is now $200, but for full-time students, the elders aged over 60, CSSA recipients and full-time housekeepers is $65. Membership year runs from 1 April to 31 March next year. For any application submitted between January and March, the fee is 50% discounted for that membership year.

  • An application will be seen as valid only when the annual fee is paid. Applicants can make the payment by cash or by cheque (payable to “The Democratic Party”). If an application is rejected, the party will send back the fee to the applicant. But the party will not be responsible for any postal errors or misdelivery.

  • Pursuant to the  “DP Members’ Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Procedures”, no member can be a member of other political organizations or hold any public offices without permission of the Central Committee. For details, please contact the DP Secretariat at 2397 7033.
